BOX OF MYSTERIES
2021-2022
A series of hand modelled ceramic pieces. Terra sigillata on stoneware clay.
"A box" is an archetypical object everyone understands with a universal purpose that defines inside and outside. The ceramic piece of work challenges the observations and reflections by the viewer of this presumption by letting a soft form assume the character of something covering a box. Like a magician who manipulates your imagination by using a cloth to hide something, you get tricked into thinking it is a specific object, but in reality, it is empty. In this way, it creates a dynamic field of tension between the contours of a seen box and an imagined box with its contents that takes an exciting and individual character for each viewer.
The project is supported by: Danish Arts Foundation, City of Aarhus
